A Fresh Look for Hanson-Lien American Legion Post 368 Tank Park

The local park restoration team of Marie Dunnigan, Post Commander, Mike Muth, Chris Kislinger, Rocky Jarvis, Beverly Kirschner and Steve Kirschner, project leader, launched a comprehensive grounds revitalization project.

This transformation aims to modernize the park's visual appeal, reduce ongoing maintenance requirements, and sharply highlight the iconic static tank display. The project was completed just before Memorial Day celebration. The park's restoration project was completed in three phases:

Phase 1: Removing Old Shrubbery

The initial stage of the project focused on clearing out aged, overgrown shrubbery. Over the years, the dense vegetation began to obscure the park's central monuments. Crews and volunteers worked systematically to remove the old bushes, instantly opening up sight lines across the property.

Phase 2: Preparing the Grounds

Once the thick brush was cleared, the team turned its attention to ground preparation. Workers graded the soil, cleared away leftover roots, and leveled the terrain. Laying down a clean, uniform foundation ensures proper drainage and prevents future weed growth around the park’s heavy military displays.

Phase 3: Installing Premium Black Bark

The final phase of the renovation introduces a striking visual upgrade using premium black bark mulch. This new landscaping element creates a clean, high-contrast aesthetic across three distinct designated areas:

• The Flagpoles: The dark mulch sharply emphasizes the base of the towering flag poles.

• The Veteran Monument: The black bark frames the monument, drawing the eye directly to the names inscribed upon it.

• The Display Tank: Spreading the bold black mulch around the massive display tank gives the historic military vehicle a renewed centerpiece status.

This collective effort breathes new life into the post's grounds, ensuring that the local memorial remains a beautiful, dignified place of remembrance for generations to come.

This beautification initiative honors the community's military legacy by transforming the park grounds into a highly polished, inviting space for veterans and visitors alike.
