Historical Member of the Quarter: John Skaar

This quarter, we honor the memory of John Skaar (1934–2021), a lifelong member of Post 368 whose devotion to the Legion was unmatched. A U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict, John served our Post in nearly every capacity, including Post Commander and Finance Officer.

Beyond his leadership, John was the "number one on-call repairman" for Sampson Heating and Air Conditioning, often braving harsh winter storms to restore heat for local families. Whether he was volunteering as a firefighter or ensuring the Post refrigerator was stocked with Schlitz Beer, John lived by the motto: "Work hard, play hard".
